Highlights of 2007-2008
Mariam Sandhu – Past President

I started off this year with the message inspired by Gandhi that we should “be the change you wish to see in the world.” I am proud that we have orchestrated change in our community by giving hope where it is needed most. Here are some ways in which the Stark County Medical Society Auxiliary Board has given back to the Stark County community through their efforts, talents, dedication and with your constant support:

  • $5,000 cash donation given to the PAL Mission
  • $5,000 cash donation given to Stark County Children’s Network
  • $1,000 cash donation given to American Heart Association
  • $1,000 cash donation given to The Domestic Violence Project, Inc
  • $1,000 cash donation given to Rape Crisis Services of Stark County
  • $1,000 cash donation given to SAFE KIDS DAY COALITION
  • $7,000-$10,000 in Scholarships given to Medical Students
  • $400 given to the AMA Foundation

Besides these cash donations we have also given much needed personal items to both the Pal Mission and the Children’s Network such as bedding/ toiletries/pots and pans. Our two Fundraisers, Casino Royale and the Spring Fashion Show, were able to bring in close to $14,000 in funds.

Other goals that have been achieved:

  • Created a website for the SCMSAwww.scms-a.org
  • Created anInternet Safety brochure on Cyberbullying – 5000 brochures distributed throughout Stark County to various Doctor’s/Dentist’s Offices, DARE programs, Local school districts, SAFE Kids Day, Stark County Libraries
  • Compiled over 50 signatures for AMA’s Screen Out Campaign
  • Recognized with 3 awards at the State Convention held May 1-2, 2008 for:
    • Doctor’s Day Billboard Campaign
    • Save a Shelter Fashion Show Event
    • Internet Safety Initiative – Cyberbullying Brochure
